Portulaca Grandiflora Flower Seeds

1. Prepare the Soil
Choose a sunny location with loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Remove weeds and loosen the soil before sowing. Portulaca performs best in soil that does not retain excessive moisture.
2. Sow the Seeds
Scatter the Portulaca seeds lightly over the prepared soil. Press them gently into the surface rather than burying them deeply, as the seeds are very small and benefit from light during germination.
3. Maintain Proper Spacing
Once seedlings emerge, provide sufficient space between plants for healthy growth and spreading. Avoid overcrowding to improve airflow and flowering.
4. Water Carefully
Water gently after sowing and keep the soil lightly moist during germination. Once plants are established, avoid excessive watering and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
5. Provide Full Sunlight
Place the plants in an area receiving approximately 6–8 hours or more of direct sunlight each day. Good sunlight encourages compact growth and abundant flowering.
6. Fertilize When Required
Use compost or a light, balanced fertilizer when necessary. Avoid excessive fertilizer, as too much nitrogen may encourage leafy growth rather than flowers.
7. Maintain the Plants
Remove faded flowers and dry plant material when required to maintain a neat appearance and encourage continued flowering.
8. Protect Young Seedlings
Protect newly emerging seedlings from heavy rain, waterlogging, strong winds and garden pests until the plants become established.
