1. Sowing Technique: Plant the seed rhizomes or sets 5–7 cm deep directly into loose, well-cultivated soil mounds, ensuring any prominent red growing buds point upward.
2. Sunlight Requirements: Position your cultivation beds or pots in a wide-open area that receives at least 6 hours of full, direct daily sunlight.
3. Soil Condition: Plant in deeply cultivated, loose, stone-free sandy loam soil heavily mixed with compost; heavy clay will restrict the downward expansion of the tubers.
4. Watering Schedule: Maintain a steady, moderate watering routine to keep the soil evenly damp; avoid overwatering or waterlogging, which can cause root rot.
5. Harvesting Timing: Harvest carefully using a garden fork in late winter when the tall, leafy green canopy naturally begins to yellow, dry down, and die back after flowering.
