Lotus Flower Seeds

1. Prepare the Lotus Seeds
Lotus seeds have a very hard outer seed coat. Carefully scarify or nick the seed coat without damaging the inner seed.
2. Soak the Seeds
Place the prepared seeds in a clean container filled with warm water. Keep them in a warm location and change the water regularly.
3. Wait for Germination
Once the seeds begin to swell and produce roots and shoots, continue providing clean water and adequate warmth.
4. Prepare the Growing Container
Use a large container without drainage holes and fill it with suitable heavy, fertile aquatic soil. Avoid lightweight potting mixes that can float or disperse in water.
5. Plant the Germinated Seed
Carefully place the germinated seed into the moist soil, allowing the developing shoot to remain above the soil surface.
6. Add Water Gradually
Add water carefully above the soil and maintain an appropriate water level as the plant develops.
7. Provide Full Sunlight
Place the lotus in an area receiving approximately 6–8 hours or more of direct sunlight daily for strong growth and flowering.
8. Provide Adequate Space
Lotus plants can spread considerably as they mature. Use a sufficiently large container or pond area to allow the plant to develop properly.
9. Maintain Water Quality
Keep the growing water reasonably clean and avoid excessive disturbance around developing roots and shoots.
10. Fertilize Carefully
Once the plant is established, use a suitable aquatic-plant fertilizer according to the product instructions. Avoid excessive fertilizer, especially during early growth.
